If you read ari's post you know all the background info. I usually run boost at 18 psi in my '87 spg. When my spark plugs get dirty the apc limits boost to about 12 psi. If you bypass the apc it would still run at 18 psi and probably knock. Knocking hammers the headgasket out and isn't very good for the engine. Ask Raul what happens to engines. there's no reason for a manual boost valve when you can adjust boost with the apc settings.
