By the way, I disagree with Mr. Science about how difficult removing the alternator is. It's just turning bolts. If you don't have the right tools, go to Sears and get what you need and don't be afraid to improvise. A vice grip clamped onto a short wrench, for example, works well to extend the reach of the wrench.
Also, why are you removing the alternator? The most common problem is bad brushes, and they can be replaced without removing the alternator. However, if you're going to replace mounting bushings, bearings, etc., then removal is obviously required.
