Take it slow! DON'T tailgate.
Even if you can get up to speed quickly (heavy saab, SUV, 4WD, whatever), you may not be able to stop quickly.
Stay away from idiots who think SUV's can stop as fast as they can take off.
Watch for "black ice", or ice you can't see.
Learn to use your ABS, if you have it. Learn to pump your brakes. Practice braking in a parking lot. Also practice doing donuts, just watch out for light poles, other cars, other people, curbs, and shopping carts!
When you're in the Walmart lot, figure out how to recover from a skid/spin situation. Get a little speed, throw yourself into a skid, and steer yourself back to normal. It's a subtle dance with the brakes and steering.
Keep the washer fluid topped off.
Keep the headlights clean. Very Important.
For your sake, I hope the heated seats work.
You'll probably do great with the Saab. This will be my first winter in a C900, but my 9-3 is a trooper. I call it the Turbo Rocket Sled. It has so much more control in winter conditions that my old Neon. It totally smokes my wife's Corolla, too.
