I have always called a herd of Moose a bunch of meese and nobody believed the word existed - thanks!
We have numerous deer around the rural roads west of the city where I live and so slowing down is one step to survival, yours and the car. Moose are prevalent east of the city and there are a number of Yellow Diamond caution signs with "Caution Night Danger" and images of leaping moose and deer on them - you have been warned.
However, jumping deer and meese are a case of steer straight, brake and duck behind the dash so carcass goes over you (don't duck if you are the lead car with an 18 wheeler behind you, since, unless you have practised the manouever on a slippery, snow covered parking lot, as you duck the tendancy is to drag the steering wheel to the right and off into the boonies you go). On an interstate, at night, I always try to have a 'rabbit' about 1/4 mile ahead where there is forest on both sides of the highway. BTW it doesn't have to be an animal, some folks stop in the middle of the lesser travelled roads to have a Pee between tavern stops - be careful out there!
