First, check the charging voltage. With the car running, measure the voltage across the batter terminals. At idle, should be over 12.5-13v, but under 14v. Rev the engine to say 3-4k, and the voltage should go up very slightly, maybe by 0.5v. With engine still running, turn the main lights, cabin fan, and rear window heater on. Voltage shouldn't drop below 12v.
Then, check for current drain. Connect an ammeter in series with the battery. Don't turn the ignition key, you'll kill the ammeter. With everything off, current draw should be less than 20mA.
