Thanks for the opinion, but do you think the back brakes were to blame? She was driving straight(no corners) only at 55mph on dry roads and the rear tires had plenty of tread. Tapping brakes at this speed should not have lead to this. Also, I have been in some violent fish tails before in my Saab but I have never seen a car do this before. It was very fast and definitely looked uncontrollable.
Please read these scenario's and tell me what you think.

Say only the rear brakes were working, the car would have kept straight but skidded the rear tires.

Say only the front tires were working, the car would have kept straight and slowed down or skidded.

Say the front and only one of the rear tires were working, wouldn't the car still have gone straight?

Now say if only one of the front tires were working, the car would pull hard to the to the otherside but linearly. If both of the rear brakes were working at the same time, the effect should be the same but to a less of a degree.

If under ABS control, say only one front brake was working, the one front brake would be prevented from locking which I would think could cause a rocking motion, right? Couldn't this then lead to the rear being pushed out and into a fishtail? Under normal driving conditions, I didn't feel a linear pull. So, if say the HCU of the ABS is faulty and the ABS is activated couldn't that prevent one brake from working and then pulsating the other brake? So it would explain why it only happened that one time under hard braking.
This times, she only tapped the brake at first though, what could have initiated the whole thing. I'm sure soon as she thought she was loosing control, she pressed hard on the brakes. But, how'd it start from lightly applying the brake?
