unfortunately, you really do need to remove the steering knuckle - at least partially... i would really consider replacing the ball joints while you're doing this, unless they're pretty new. but if you're in a pinch or don't want to, undo the tie rod end, pop it out, then undo the upper ball joint bolts and the inner joint boot clamp. work the upper ball joint out of the a-arm - this will give you enough clearance to pull the driveshaft out of the spindle and then out of the inner driver and out of the car. you might have to remove the brake caliper since the brake line might not be long enough for you to work the driveshaft out... once the axle nut is undone, you might be able to just pull the axle out of the spindle, but if not, leave the nut threaded on as much as possible, use a block of wood and gently tap the axle out of the spindle. like i said before, i would seriously consider replacing those ball joints while you have this apart...
