You can drive a constant 60 mph between highway mile markers and time how long it takes. At constant 60 mph your stopwatch should record 1 minute between markers. If it doesn't, your actual speed = 3600 / time recorded, in seconds. IF you drove 60mph and you recorded 65 seconds to drive one mile, your error is 60 - 3600/65 = 60 - 55.3 = about 5 miles/hr. You probably already know this (no offense meant) but it maybe someone else on here doesn't. I used this method after replacing my speedo to realize it's off by 10 mph. Apparently, speedos from auto cars are different than manuals. I just hope those mile markers are accurate! I repeated it using several different markers and got same answer.
