Personally I do not really think so. It really depends on what has been done and how you drive your car. If redlining it through all the gears and dropping the clutch for some mad peel outs, well yes, you may want to consider the Honda. But since you have done the tranny, clutch etc... You have squared away the most common and expensive repair that the car should have for a long while. I am also assuming that you have some sense and do not tear the piss out of your car (especially on a limited budjet).
Think of this...250 bucks for 3 years is $9,000. That is a lot of money toward repairs, even in three years.
Like you, I am 18, and am in my freshman year of college. (Marietta in OH)I live 1200 miles from my home in FL. Which brings up another very important point. How much are you going to be driving? Also, are you sure that the university allows freshmen to have cars? (Univ. of FL does not allow even Sophmores!) I like to go for drives each day or so, just to relax and get the heck off campus. I have always enjoyed driving my car, no matter where it is to, but having the break from crew, classes and homework is REALLY nice (makes it even better in a Saab! ;-)
So I figure that if you enjoy driving a Saab, then stick with it. But if you really need the reasurance of a yuckie "Honda", then needs are needs... For me, I NEED a Saab!!
