My answers for questions 1 and 3:
1) I understand that there's a new head, however, are you losing coolant in the cylinders? I'm inferring that there are no visible leaks under the car, so, did the new head gasket fail and allow coolant into the cylinders? Pull the oil dipstick; is the level high? This happened to me on my old Monte Carlo, but, it was the intake manifold gasket that failed, not either of the head gaskets. That coolant is going somewhere.
3) Plastic is cheap and gets fatigued or brittle over time. The top nipple on my Volvo broke off that way...after 12 years, but, it should not have happened anyway. I opted for the metal radiator which was a little LESS expensive oddly enough!
