Couldn't quite decide what to do today 'sides wash the car. Sit in front of TV watching sports? Not this ramblin' sort. There's always radio for that. I did need a few odd parts, the main one being the recently torn fender well trim, so off to the scrap yard. As luck would have it, a new batch of 900's found their way to a local fav yard. Yes! I found the exact trim strip needed. Plus a bonus: a set of Bosch foglights taken from a 16V 900. Very curious as to how they will improve visibility on these coming winter late night misty canyon drives.
The 16V has the O2 sensor outside the turbo unit along the elbow. Not on the exhaust header/before the turbo unit as on the 8V model. Is there any benefit to having the O2 sensor at that location? It would be easy to swap that elbow and after plugging the unused manifold sensor hole, move my current sensor to it's new home. One obvious difference is that the elbow mounted O2 sensor is further away from the direct heat of the engine exhaust. Considering how important temperature is to the function of the sensor, this would suggest a cooler sensor temp and perhaps a sensor specific to that temperature range. True? Also, moving the sensor "down" leaves an unobstructed path for the exhaust to travel heading into the turbo compressor. Perhaps that's only important for high end performance measurements. Your comments are welcome.
