Ever heard the expression, "better to deal with the devil you know than the devil you don't know"?
I've experienced this firsthand. I had a very nice (cosmetically/mechanically) '87 900 base model that I'd paid cash for. I sold it and bought an '88 black on black Turbo convertible, the Saab I always wanted. I broke a personal vow and took out a loan to buy it.
Shortly after I drove it home, it started giving me problems, and not the inexpensive leaking valve cover gasket kind of problems. I mean steering rack, turbo, transmission, and about a half dozen other aggravating problems.
Looking back at it, I love the new car, but if I had it to do over again, I'd have kept the '87 and put the $12K+ (sale price plus repairs) I've put into this car in the last 2 years, into the bank instead.
Keep your good car, save your cash, and don't fall in love with the first turbo you see.
