welding structural steel

My car's been running pretty well for an 11 year old, but a few months ago a mechanic and I found rust eating away at the steel near the right A-arm mount. I've been told this is repairable, but for how much (round numbers)? Can the car's chassis be considered "good as new" after the weld (i.e., can the weld completely repair the problem)? Much as I love my baby, I don't want to go dropping this kind of money into it when it won't buy me much more time and/or will be a chronic problem. Thanks!
