You might not have to take off seatback adjustment knob. I fixed my seats over the weekend, and didn't have to do so.
Luckily, though, I spotted the burn marks (two happened on driver's, one on passenger's seat) even though it was my first such repair. I peeled a hole in the thin grid covering fabric and soldered them back together. I had an old coffee can wedged in between the seat covering and the foam pad to give me space to work in. (My reasoning was, if I tried to take off that side plastic panel and the seat adj. knob, I'd probably break 'em!)
Haven't had to take seatback cover off, though. You can narrow down search to either seat bottom heating grid or seat back grid by using a ohm meter across terminals of the seatback connector. 0 ohms=good circuit.
