rookie seat heater woes...

first of all, I am a saab rookie, so please bear with me. I recently purchased an 87 spg with everything in great working order except for the heated seats and the cruise control (cc will be tackled later...). What type of set-up do I have - the FAQ and various postings have sufficiently confused me.
There is a switch on the dash that allows me to select one of three levels - under the seat there is a wire with three "holes" (i checked and power does seem to make it to this point). I then checked for power continuing to the seat-back... nothing. Removed the bottom seat cover and didn't see any burn marks or feel any obvious breaks (did not seperate the pad from the cushion though)... is this where I would find the thermostat switch - where my right cheek would be if I were sitting?
The passenger seat doesn't work either...is this connected to the driver's seat not working?
thanks for any and all help!
