Personally, I would never spray the engine with a hose, high pressure or not. If I wanted to clean the engine, I would apply degreaser only to the areas that need degreasing, use some elbow grease, and wash it off by letting water flow top to bottom.
The electrical boxes and connectors in the engine compartment are designed to shed water that lands on top. To some extent they are resistant to splashing, but a water spray under pressure is a different matter.
I'm sure many folks have pressure washed their engines with no problems. However, the downside can be pretty bad and very expensive. I know for a fact that some folks with the NG900 that pressure washed their engines regretted it. In the NG900, the speedometer signal comes from the ABS box (seeing as the ABS box sees wheel movement). People would pressure spray their engines, and water would get into the ABS controller. Once the car was started, the speedometer would pin at full speed, and the electronic odometer would start racking up miles at a fantastic rate - some folks put on thousands of miles just getting the car down to the dealership. Sometimes just drying the ABS box out fixed the problems, others needed new ABS boxes.
So, I wouldn't spray the engine. Let water flow down over surfaces, but no spray.
