Easiest thing is to pull one plug and lay it close to the forward engine lifting eye and turn the engine. With the lifting eye acting as a ground you should see the spark plug fire. Don't get your hands close during that operation! IF you don't see spark, you have ignition problems. since I just did this it's pretty fresh in my mind.
TO test voltage to the distributor you unplug the line on the side and test the two outer pins of the connector (on harness) with the key on. You should get something like 10V+. That means the distributor hall sensor is getting power.
THen plug it back in and remove ignition amp from fender and pull boot off backside of connector, leaving it plugged in. Test pins 3 and 6 for voltage. I think it was black and green wires, but not sure. That's output of hall sensor that varies from low to high as distributor rotates. Instead of turning engine by hand you can loosen distributor bolt and rotate distributor each way. SOmewhere the voltage should change. IF it does that..the distributor hall sensor is good.
If the hall sensor is getting power as verified in first step but doesn't provide output as second step, you need another distributor. OR maybe the connections are corroded.
good luck,
dave n
