to O2 sensor with ignition on but not running. It should be around .5V reference signal at the black wire that ECU is sending out to O2 sensor. Than you know the tester is working.
Start the car and varm it up, measure again at black wire with the wire still connected to engineharness/ECU. If working properly the voltage should fluctuate between approx .1V and .8V, maybe .9V with a really good O2 sensor.
