Hello all!
This is my first post on this board...I am looking forward to talking with you all.
I have a 1990 900T Convertable. I bought the car over 2 years ago with 68000 orginal miles.
I have been having a problem with the car the whole time I have owned it. I have spent over $1500 with my mechanic. He cant fix it.
I need help.
Here is the problem.
1. Sometimes when I turn the key in the ignition...the lights come on...but the starter will not crank. I just get a click. The lights stay on, the headlights turn on.
2. Sometimes if I hold the key for a few seconds (1-10) the starter will crank...and the engine starts fine.
3. Sometimes I can hold the key forever...and nothing will happen.
4. It seems to happen more when its hot outside, or the car has been running in the heat.
5. If I put a brand new battery in the car...it will not do the problem for about a month of solid running.
6. Once the battery is over a month old...the problem comes back.
7. If I leave the car sitting for over a week...the battery goes dead.
8. Jump start starts it...but then battery will not hold a charge...and the starter usally wont turn at all.
I have cleaned the battery cables.
Installed three new batteries.
Any help would be very, very helpful!
Thanks all in advance!
Rick
