Age old dilemma I am sure, 86 900s,178,000 mi,owned since 103,000 at whch time I we had trannie rebuilt, new clutch, major tune up.ect. I change oil every 3000 mi.-averaged out only $175.oo a year for 5 years since then on repairs-mostly cv boots-axel-battey-ect. Now it needs about 2200.00plus-for wheel bearing-cv boot axels-oxygen sensors -timing chain and the valves are pretty tight. It doesn't use any oil or heat up. The interior is great except for headliner-glovebox cover-dash thing. In general, do these cars usually need a new trannie every 100,000 (am I likely to have that coming up again after I spend whatever-do Saabs historically have about 100,000 mile limits on the transmission? It is a strong car and I really am attached-but with limited funds I just don't know if it's wise. Is it reasonable to expect 250,000 miles out of these cars? I know no one has a crystal ball, just looking for more Saab experiance than I or anyone around my small town has. We have a good volvo mechanic now with some Saab experience but not all the exclusive tools. They are willing to work on it. I only drive about 10,000 per yr. but do make 5-6 trips a year to the San Fran bay area and need the car to be reliable. Any direction or decision-making ideas would be greatly appreciated.
