Seat Repair Question, Please Help.

Has anyone figured out how to reupholster a rear seat bottom on the 900 convertible (may be same issue on non-convertibles). I unstapled the fabric from the plywood on the bottom, and took a look inside the seat using a flashlight. I can not figure out how the seat was put together. The seat springs are attached to the plywood bottom using stables that are not accesible from below. Without ripping the seat apart, I see no way of repairing the seat - and, if I rip it apart, it defeats the purpose of trying to repair it. All I want to do is reattach/replace the strings that give the seat its contours. On front seat bottoms, there are plastic disks that hold the strings. On the rear seat, the strings appear to be attached to metal hooks that attach to the seat side (not the accessible bottom side) of the plywood. Any suggestions?
Also, anyone know the reason for the wire (white w/gray strip) that goes into the seat cushion? I tracked it as far as I could but found no reason for it, unless to ground the springs?
Thanks
