Yes to what Ray said. Also sometimes the heater core gets clogged. I've had great success numerous times with the following: remove the heater hoses at the firewall, blow out the antifreeze in the heater with compressed air, attach a short hose to the lower line of the control valve ( all this with valve set at full open), fill the heater with vinegar and let it sit for 1/2 hr. The blow out the vinegar and flush SEVERAL times with fresh water and cmpressed air. You should see lots of little chunks of white stuff come out. Reconnect lower hose,then let the heater fill with the upper hose slightly ajar, then push it home. Note: be sure to get all the vinegar flushed out. You don't want that in your engine. Also, if your heater core is bad, it will be really bad afterwards, but then you had to replace it anyway!
