Slipping belts and a bad alternator/voltage regulator look quite a bit alike. If you suspect your belts are slipping, you've got to deal with that first. I know you've gotten grief for using dressing, and I realize that it's just a troubleshooting tool. Just not a good one - I've not found dressing to be much use.
Try this - let the car idle with every electrical load OFF - no fan, no headlights, nothing. Use a voltmeter to measure the battery voltage. It should be over 13.0 volts, and you shouldn't see any signs of the belts slipping.
Now, turn on the headlights, fan to full, click on the defroster. Measure the battery voltage. This puts a BIG load on the alternator. If the belts are going to slip, now's the time. I would expect the voltage to drop. If there are NO signs of belt slipping, but the battery voltage drops below 12.5, you probably need a new voltage regulator. If the belts slip, well, get new, properly tightened belts, and then see if you still have alternator issues.
Good luck!
