Hey guys, my turn.
First time removing the o2 sensor on a turbo. My old '90 Base was pretty simple to crack loose. I've ground my o2 sensor socket down to fit, used a short 22mm wrench and beat on it, swivel extension on my breaker bar and damn this sucker is welded on. So, I remove the headlight and corner light (should have done in the first place...I remember Jeff C suggesting this approach) and slap my breaker bar w/ pipe on it and give it my all....snap!...I cracked my new SK socket in half. In doing so the split remnant of the socket squished the sensor!
On to my question. My new exhaust downpipe has a nice little o2 sensor boss on it - accessable from the top. I'm wondering if placement in the turbo elbow is essential for the o2 sensor. Can I clip off the old one (to be removed when it stops snowing outside) and install my new one in this handy downpipe location. This boss is about 6" downstream from the turbo elbow location.
Thanks for any help.
By the way, my idle has been somewhat lopy lately and it's been about 70K since the p.o. last replaced it, so I decided to put a new one in. I've never had one totally die so I haven't known the symptoms but my short drive after smushing the current sensor gave me a taste of what a beat sensor is like. The car accelerated ok, but the between shift rpms dove and the exhaust really smelled of sulfur (and CE light came on). It's odd because the CE light came on and the car drove poorly on the leg home from my errand, not the first start after crushing it.

Also, I've been chasing a hesitation and crappy performance for about a month now. Thursday I unplugged and replugged the TPS and bingo, she drives like a rocket again. Well, until today.
