I've owned a Springtime in Sweden '88 (SIS88) for two years now. This is my third Saab, and , while I've had to dump a lot of money into it - new transmission, replaced head gasket, inner drive tri-bearings, failed LH Fuel Control Module, ... - I still wouldn't trade it for the world! The Black on black with the SPG Trim, and, arguably, the full SPG performance package, makes this car a drop dead gorgeous drop-top that's a kick-in-the-pants to drive!
The best and only detailed info I've been able to locate on this special edition has been on the Turbo website by someone named Larry (I forget the address). I'll try to locate a link for you. As the story goes, Saab made somewhere between 283 and 330 of these identical convertibles, one for each dealer in the US, and presented each with one at the 1988 annual dealers meeting in Sweden.
Based on my experiences, my only suggestion is to go into the negotiations with your eyes wide open. I knew I had the transmission problem, but the rest caught my wallet by surprise. The Body was in great shape, but I discovered far more paint chips once I clay-cleaned the car. Still the car is in great shape. I paid $4,700 for mine in Danbury, CT, knowing about the Transmission. It had about 150K miles on it, then (169K, now).
Email me if you have any specific questions you'd like to have answered. It's a great car. I don't know if I'll ever let mine go.
