Perhaps I'm misguided, but I understand that the classic 8 and 16 v 1985cc I4 in the c900 was codeveloped-coengineered by Saab and Triumph, and eventually used by both makers. Both makers labeled and stamped them as "their" engines. Triumph didn't have nearly as much success with the motor and only used it in the Dolomite for a handful of years. Also, from the "leave it to Saab" file, the v-4 that Saab bought from Ford was a pile of crap in Ford tune and was as unreliable as rain. Saab bought the rights to use and manufacture it and made it tough and reliable. Apparently, in the US, it was put in the imported Ford Taunus (not Taurus) and marketed (unofficially) as the Ford with the Saab engine. I think I read this in an Automobile Quarterly, but I could be wrong. If anyone knows better, please correct me!
