>it could be binding up neutral a bit and loading the engine. That would be nice, good thought, but there doesn't seems to be any bind or extra load.
>if the foot is on the break, the car may stall. No chance here either, good at 800-900rpm idle, no change with the brake use.
>i would also check the connections between the alternator and the starter and the battery. make sure everything is tight. I did a quick look earlier, will do more this evening, certainly doublecheck all the alternator wires! Did notice some insulation coming off the positive wire right at the battery terminal, but nowhere else.
>i just think it's odd that the c.e. light comes on with the battery light. normally, when the alternator is having problems, that light only will come on. not the c.e. that's why i thought maybe you were getting to the point of stalling, they all come on when that happens
I drove a few miles, high and low rpms in various gears, but just could never make anything happen except at idle, and still all three lights. Micah's suggestion of the voltage being a bit low needs my attention too, but that could be just a bad connection with my vom. Still, seems it would dip some with either high beams or AC, or even both.
Horrifying thought... wire insulation maybe? Some left over from the infamous '85's? Gads!! :(
