Anyone tried to repair their headlight wiper?

In my new-to-me 1991 900S, the wiper motor is damaged--the little electric motor is turning but the wiper arm itself isn't rotating at all. I think that there must be some plastic gear that's not engaging or is stripped somewhere inside. Before I rip the thing open any further than taking the back off to take a look (which was not terribly helpful...), has anyone attempted to fix one of these? I like the idea of headlight wipers, but I don't know if I'm inclined to pay $89 bucks for one of these. Are they easy to find in parts yards?
FYI it's the passenger side motor.
Also, is it possible to get replacement plastic ends to the wiper arms? The piece that holds the blade on is broken on both of my wipers so although I've got my new blades, I can't put them on! I'm not going to buy whole new arms, though--if replacement ends can't be had, I'll just use a little epoxy and some plastic to make my own fitting! Not stock, but oh well.
TIA,
Tim B.
