Hello, Saabnet!

I've been offline for awhile and have missed being here on the boards. I got a job which basically ate up ALL of my free time and finally quit that job on Monday. The Beastie has been neglected a little, and I'm determined to spend a little time and money catching up on things in the next month or two.

My first project is going to be an attempt to replace the clutch myself. I've seen the warning signs... in a redzone boost accel two weeks ago, the clutch slipped a bit, and I watched the tach skip up and down before I got my foot off the accelerator. It's been 9 years and 80K miles since the last clutch job, so it's time. I've been babying the clutch since that initial slip... no boosting, which isn't fun. I'm afraid that one warning is all I'll get, though, so I'm not taking any chances.

Jeff and Royce's pictorial instructions for clutch replacement are a little daunting, particularly as they note, "This part required 3 beers to complete...." Several of the steps seem like they're going to be a real pain. I'm a little leery about doing this project myself. I have time on my hands, though, so I'm going to give it a try.

I noted that Swedish Dynamics sells a couple of different clutch kits... one with copper pads, and one with kevlar, both around $260. Does anyone here have any experience with either of those two kits? I also recall SPG9 used to advertise something called a "Centerforce" clutch. They're working on their website now so I can't research that one. What's the concensus here on clutch kits? Which do you guys like?

Also, I've seen a few (including the $530 Swedish Dynamics one) lightened flywheels. What do you guys think about those? Is it worth replacing the flywheel while I'm at it? Does a lighter flywheel make the car more prone to stalling? Is the performance change with an aluminum flywheel noticeable? If I'm replacing the clutch anyway, is it that much harder to replace the flywheel, too? (From what I can tell, it isn't, but I've never done this before.)

Appreciate any and all comments, suggestions, etc.

Thanks in advance!
