i finally got under my '87 SPG today to adjust the base boost. it was only getting about a millimeter into the yellow part of the boost guage, which i estimate to be between 1 and 2 lbs. i took the clip off the wastegate rod and it broke. not a big deal, it will stay on for now, and i can soon get another one. then i proceeded to turn the rod four times. according to the bectley, this should have raised the base boost about 2.4 lbs, bringing the boost up to almost half of the yellow part of the guage. it didn't. i put the rod back onto the turbo and tested the base boost as per the bentley book. it still will go no higher than a millimeter or two into the yellow. a friend of mine told me his volvo 240 turbo had to have the rod turned almost twenty times to increase his boost, and that his repair manual was way off. is it possible that i have to turn my wastegate rod that much? please help me, i've had base boost since i got the car, and to top it off, it's a very low base boost. i need to fix this car.
