I planned on replacing all of the wires while I had it out but couldn't find a bad section anywhere on most of them. Even bending the wire back and forth didn't crack the insulation. I ended up cutting the wires about an inch from the connector, one at a time, and splicing in new wire. It works fine and I feel much better about the reliability. I wouldn't feel comfortable taking a long road trip with wires contacting each other. I have some pics if interested.
