First, let me say i found this site last nite at 3am when i couldn't sleep and AM SO GLAD I DID!! You guys are GREAT!!

I am located in Northern NJ... i will <very gladly> accept any and all tech recomendations and part sources in the surrounding area!

Yes, the $1000 catalytic converter blew me away too, but if you check out Saab's list price for an OEM, it's $975!

I am not at my house now, but will repost as to part cost vs. labor cost from the second mechanic when i get back home (i think it's within the $500 range mentioned in a prior post). Using my original mechanic is no longer an option for this vehicle, as i don't think it pays to put ONLY OEM parts in it.

In the "honest" mechanics defense, he didn't charge me anything to diagnose the vehicle, and therefore received NO BENEFIT from telling me not to do the work. I think his labor rate is $65/hour, the 2nd mechanic's labor rate is $55/hour.

THANKS AGAIN for all the help, and it's so nice to see other people that understand my situation, as well as the LOVE and ADMIRATION i have for my SAAB!
