Yes, the proceedure you outlined would work. The main reasons why I opted to pull the entire shaft were: less time spent on my back while dirt fell in my eyes while wrestling with the metal clips and sliding the boot through chassis holes. Then there's little leverage in that position, my arms would get tired, and I had to remove the caliper anyway to get to those three loose disc cover plate bolts. Still, I just might try it that way when the other boot ruptures. Thanks.
