Hey, Earlyer on this board i ran across this:

*****"If it is chugging when it's initially started you may be looking at a head gasket. What happens is coolant leaks down into one of the cylinders and it burns off when the car is started...that's why it runs/chugs a bit.

Better get it looked at soon because if too much coolant gets in that cylinder you can get 'hydro lock" which will quickly destroy the engine. Too much fluid in the bore doesn't allow the piston to move the way it's supposed to which is bad because that energy will go the other way and do the deed to the inners."*******

Ok, this is what my 1991 900S does, i think.

almost always when i start my 900 for the first time in the morning, it starts up fine and idles fine. I usualy let it idle 2-3 min to get some temp built up during these cool mornings. then i procede down my drive way and down a hill in my neighborhood. never leaving neutral the whole way. at the bottom of the hill there is a stop sign and level ground. I stop, then start off in first with no problems, at around 2500 i shift to 2nd and when i let the clutch up its 1500 in 2nd. then i get back on the gas lightly, but it does nothing but hesitate with NO gain in RPM or speed for about one full second and then the power comes on, the more gas i give it the less time it takes. and the car starts to move as normal. it only does this when i first start it in the morning. it sits at school for 7 hours and doesnt appear to do it when i start it to go home.

i realize my headgasket is wimpy and is bound to break, there are 138000 miles and its never been replaced. There is never any coolant in the oil(i change it like a religion, and check it atleast every 2nd day.) I loose no coolant that is noticible, and as far as i know the car doesnt burn white smoke.(im going to look for smoke tomorrow.)

is this nothing to worry about or do i need to get a nice shiny new headgasket from eeuroparts and take my car appart for a week?

btw car runs a tad hot in traffic or at a light, *hot as in 2/3 up on guage.* to remedy i hit the ac to turn on the 2ndary fan to assist the single fan that comes on at 2/3. this brings it back to half very quickly.

service history-
4 new platinum+ plugs less than 5k miles ago
2 oil changes with mobil 1 in the last 6,000 miles.
K&N cone filter to replace trashed OEM filter
Fuel pump O-ring to stop leak
airbag wiring work @ soveringn motors

thanks a ton,
austin 1991 900 S 5 speed 3 door
