That was my post about hydro-lock. I'll tell you this and let you draw your own conclusion....I have two 900's. A n/a and a turbo. They have both had headgaskets done. My 1990 had the chugging starts. It did not however ever have any oil/coolant mix and it never ran hot.
My 1994T-conv. would run hot just like yours does at a light. Once I stopped at a light or a toll booth...zooooom. Temp gauge would go right up....I also temporarily remedied this the same way you do...turn the heat on and the A/C. This kept the temp under control till I could get it in the shop. I didn't get a chance to get it to the shop before the headgasket let go...and it let go real well. Complete drain of the coolant into the block and the car would not even turn over to get it onto the tow truck that hauled my dumba&* to the shop. It did not ever have any mixing of coolant/oil either.
So.....like I said.....draw your own conclusion, but I think the headgasket is past the sell by date. Sorry...if it makes you feel any better I was at the local dealer today and they had about 4 or 5 900's in there for headgaskets.
