Being an upcoming-college student as I mentioned before, I really don't have the money to spend $7000 on a car. In reality, my budget is more like $4500 or so (with a high of $5000). Although I've seen 9000's for this price (and even less), they all seem to A) be automatics, B) have tons of miles (150+.. I'm looking for 120 and under), C) be non-turbo, D) be poorly maintained. Am I having false hopes for finding a 9000CS/E turbo that I can actually afford? Once I get the car (be it a 9000 or 900), it sounds like the repairs will be approx. the same, but.. I don't know.
Furthermore, my family is not a new car family. Our newest car is a 91 900S, which we got very inexpensively -- a great deal for a great car. Not only would getting a 93/94 9000 or 93 900 make it the newest car in the family, but paying over $4200 would make it the most we've ever paid for one. This is not necessarily a problem, but we don't typically spend a lot of money on cars--rather, we spend it on other things like boats, skiing, etc. Cars aren't show off items for us; the Saab is a great car for us because it's a great combination of utility, safety, style, and price. DIY work is pretty easy, too, which is a major plus.
Um, let's see. Ah yes, my point is that we don't spend bundles of money on cars in my family so although it would be nice to spend $15k on a late model 9000, it's not possible. The 900's are nice because they are attainable for quite a bit less--the trade off? Yes, it's an older design. Yes, it's louder, more garrish, etc. etc. They're still great cars and bundles of fun. I *can* have fun with a 3 door (heck, I've been driving one of the family's since I first got my permit) and especially a turbo. I'm sure I could find a 9000 that's affordable, but the search is so frustrating, especially when I see so many nice 900's go by in the classifieds.
BUT ANYWAY, thanks for reading and for your ideas.
