just made a short shifter, and it was so easy!!!! Posted by ryan [Email] (#2222) [Profile/Gallery] (more from ryan) on Tue, 14 May 2002 01:43:57 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
as we all know, our c900's aren't really praised for their shift quality, so i finally thought i'd see what i could do. I pulled the whole thing out, and took off the knob, the plastic reverse lockout sleeve, and the boot. There is a metal retaining ring about 2.25" down from the top, which i popped out and used the hack saw to cut off the top. since the shaft is keyed for the knob, (i marked it b4 i cut off the top) i had to get the 'ol dremel out and continue it further down the shaft to it would go back on. before putting the knob on, I made a notch at the top of the shaft, and then one down the side of it, so then i hooked the reverse lockout wire around the top, and over the side. I squeezed it so it was flush with the side, and the shifter went right back on. I still used the reverse lockout sleeve on there so it looks good, but of course it's not functional.
I took it out for a drive to make sure it's ok, and man is it tight now!! i was banging through the gears like i was in my cousin's rx-7. I can make 1st-2nd , and 3rd-4th shifts with the flick of a wrist. It is actually about the height of my seats now, but I don't have problems with rubbing or anything.
JUST DO AS I DID, AND YOU WILL BE HAPPY!!!!
