originally, i took the stock shifter and simply cut the bottom off. this shortened the movement of the shifter and throws. i think it did feel a little sportier with the lower knob level. the downside of this method is you lose the reverse lockout ability unless you redrill the reverse pin area. it's only so deep so when you cut off the bottom, the pin does not travel far enough. although, you could probably cut the pin length to work.
then i got the idea of moving the pivot point up while retaining the stock height. this took some work separating the nylon seat from the ball and redrilling/repinning them in their respective locations. problem is, you have to install a spacer for the seat on the shifter which raises the pivot point. if you do this and nothing else, you pull the nylon ball out of is place down below. so you have to separate the two and repin each. only problem i ran into came with the pins for the nylon seat. they slightly impacted the rod and spring for the reverse lockout pin until i worked them in right.
i think if i get bored someday, i may go back and cut the length slightly to drop it down a bit. not necessary, but like i said it just seems a little sportier down lower, and not hard to use functionally. then i would have the added benefit of the higher pivot point and the shorter lever. keep in mind though, it will make it harder to move around...
