I replaced both the t-stat and the fan switch with the 82 degree variety on the advice of Tom Townsend when I dropped in to his shop last year. I also did the 'jumper' of the fan relay connector as described on Tom's site. Cruising at 75 - 80 mph down to Carlisle last week (yep, it was cold outside) the gauge registered at about the 40% mark, just where it sat in stop and go traffic last summer. I'd rather fry a fan than an engine!
