Oil under passenger side rubber/foam carpet.....anyone?

ever encouter this???. I removed all my beige carpets to clean them on my 89 900TC. I decided to pull up the thick rubber/form carpet on the passanger side that lies between the metal floor frame and the beige carpet. Low and behold, the foam was soaked in oil (or what looks and feels like oil). I have no idea how this would happen. I tried to trace a source but got nowhere. The other area of car's rubber/foam floor guard did not have the same substance What the Fa!
