I agree with Andrew, you can do much better for even cheaper. You don't even have to think in fully linear terms either; you can approach the problem from a totally different angle. When my 89 900 was totalled when I was rear-ended, I took the good engine/tranny (110K miles on them) and bought an 88 900S with a blown motor and tranny, then I had my local saab guru do a swap for me. Total price was $1200 (I actually made a profit with the insurance money!), and I'm still driving that frankenstein car 80,000 miles later. :o) Aside from that approach, you can definitely find a good OG Saab in the $2-3K range.
