CAMM - Pull off the cover plate closest to the front of the tranny (chain
drive end). Inside there is a silver bar (shifter shaft) and a bronze colored
shift fork (5th gear fork). There is a slip-fit pin holding the fork to the shaft.
Pull it out w/ fingers or pliers, then slide the shift fork towards the back
(away from chain drive) until you can feel the 5th syncro engage with a pop.
Use the normal shifter rod to put the tranny in any other gear 1-2-3-4-R. Now
you have the tranny locked up because it is in 2 different ratios at once. Air
wrench away!
BRIAN - If you read the above paragraph, I hope the light bulb went on! The
piece that fell out of your tranny was probably the "slip-fit pin" that holds the 5th
gear shift fork onto the shaft. Without it, you are pushing the shaft forward and
back, but nothing is happening! Easy to replace in the car. If you jack up the right
side of the car a lot, you might not even have to drain the tranny oil.
