1. You can usually get the tie rod end nut to turn if you clamp it down in the housing with a pair of pliers. I mean, the way it would be if it was tightened down. Then if you have the nut off, it takes a couple of good whacks with a big hammer to get it out. I use a 32 mm wrench that's meant for truck wheels. It's about half a yard long and gives a good kick.
2. That's a bit of a problem. I find it easiest to take the whole wheel hub off. Then I first take off the upper ball joint. You can get a good shot at that. Then I take an extension bar and put it through the hole of the upper ball joint. That gives you a perfect angle at the lower balljoint. Another trick is to heat it up, whack it at the sides a few times and keep hitting every now and then. Just the heating process can cause your CV joint boots to burn!!
So the problem is you can't get the hub nut loose, which means you can't take the whole hub out. That again means you'll never get a direct shot at the lower joint. Which leaves the heating option as virtually the only one left. It's funny though, about the hub nut, because in my experience the brake bolts are more of a problem!
