Tried sealing the port today

My valve is a to-port, and it's the right one that's given up on me. When I close of the vacuum hoses in the way you suggest (as I understand it by bypassing the valve altogether), will I have to seal the huge hole left by the cracked port? Won't intake vacuum/pressure leak though the mentioned pipe?
Fooling around with the thing with engine running today uncovered this:
* Securing the valve rod activator (protruding from the middle of the spring) stopped the engine knocking on idle.
* Pushing it all the way inn didn't do anything
* Pulling it all the way out immediatelig killed the engine. I suppose I provoked a huge vacuum leak.
*Resetting the valve to the original position and removing the spring caused the engine to behave normally, although idle approaches 1200 rpms.
Also, while cruising on the highway a loud rattle sounds when turbo enters yellow. I suppose it's blowing pressure out the vacuum tubes, with rods and all clappering about. Should I experience an increase in power after sealing them?
Thanks in advance, best regards
Jimmy S.
