Instead of going on a goose chase, try to get a fuelpressure gauge hooked up to fuel rail. If the gauge shows reading of more than approx 40-50 PSI. Lets say 80-90PSI. Than you defenitly have some kind of restricted return line.
It could be a kinked plastic line under the car or someone might have installed a fuel pressure check valve in the return line.
You see, at the fuel pump, it's two lines connected. One is pressure line to engine, the other is return line from engine.
The pressure line have a checkvalve installed that stops the flow of gas going back into tank when engine is shut of.
The return line have a checkvalve that stops gas from going back to engine. ( don't ask me why because I don't know)
These two checkvalves cannot under no circumstances be interchanged with each other.
The pressure line checkvalve can be bought as a seperate piece, but the return checkvalve comes with the whole hose.
Someone might have broken the return checkvalve and installed a pressure checkvalve. That means that the pump is pushing against an almost closed off line.
By the way. The pump is strong enough to push gas by the checkvalve and keep the engine running.
