Cool!
Interesting thing... the 8v NA cars have a much lower compression ratio than 16v NA cars - 9.25:1 vs. 10.1:1. I suspect with an intercooler and APC installed and good fuel, you could probably run "full boost" on an 8v NA motor and not worry about it. New B204 and B234 engines ('94 and later Saabs) run 9.25:1 in the turbo motors anyway! The only thing to be worried about would be actual piston quality and materials, and I suspect with a proper, well-tuned setup you'd be fine.
Personally, for the matter of simplicity, I'd do the 8v swap. But, installing a 16v motor in an 8v shell is *not* hard at all. It's actually pretty mindless. The tough part is getting the CIS parts to mount on the 16v lump, but if you can do minor fabrication you're fine. Alternatively, if you don't have to worry about a detailed inspection or your emissions laws are less restrictive than California's, you can swap to LH injection, which makes the whole thing a snap, and requires very, very little effort.
Your call! Personally, I think I'd do the 8vT swap or do a 16NA swap. I think that 16v motor in a stripper, early c900 would be fun...
