Everything can look good until the color coat

For a really good paint job, one can spend months on the prep work. It depends on how much you want to do. Take the doors, hood, trim, weatherstriping off -- even disassembling the door so get under the handles if you want it to look better. By painting these pieces individually makes it a better paint job. And more work, and more expensive. Putting it back together is the tough part.
You prep and prep and prep and shoot coats of primer, etc. Everything looks great -- you think --- until the color coat of truth reveals all the previously invisible imperfections in your prep work.
You can live with it or do it over again -- which is more time.
Sometimes everything can be right but as you shoot the color coat a bug lands right on the paint -- or it starts raining -- or it's too cold --- or the paint gets a run in it...
Again, live with it or do it again.
It can be, in theory, easy work assuming the body is in great shape -- but -- to do a good job in an time efficient manner and end up with something that looks decent is the hard part.
