If you have time, and there's a SAAB dealer nearby, see if you can get a replacement alternator warning light. It's a different wattage than the rest of the warning lights because it's part of the charge regulating circuit. I don't remember the details of the bulb offhand.
And, if you have time, also try running a wire from any handy nut on the alternator body to any handy nut on the engine to see if that will complete the circuit.
All that said, definitely put it on the charger overnight to top off the battery and see how it goes.
IIRC, there's also a relay in the charge circuit, but I can't be sure without a handy Bentley.
