Two Questions:
1) I noticed my car was running a little hotter than usual (still well w/n the green zone though) so when i checked my coolant level this morning (cold) it was low. I have to make a 100 mile roundtrip this afternoon and don't have any coolant. Should i just drive with what i have or should i get a gallon of distilled water from the store down the block and fill it up with that. I'm in the NYC area, and it's about 75 degrees and wet here today. Also, where does the coolant go to, as i think it was topped off by my former mechanic about 4 months ago? It's pretty low, so i'm hoping i don't have any bigger problems at hand. (i know there's something BAD that can happen if you see oil in your coolant or vice versa, but not sure of anything more than that)
2) I noticed i get a spray of what appears to be black oil on the underside of the hood, just about where the hood meets the firewall. This spray is just about directly on top of the belt for the Air Conditioner compressor. Any idea where this could be coming from and/or what it means? I MAY have a bad harmonic balancer, so perhaps if that is leaking oil the belts are spraying it that far up to hit the underside of the hood? Seems a little far fetched, but just adding any info/suspicions i may have.
Thanks for help on either of the above.
