Saab's don't have any problems - they are old! 4" speakers in front and 4x10"s in back, no matter how expensive, will *never* produce sound on par with modern audio systems. Modern cars have much larger speakers, placed in doors and rear decks with baffling to help produce deep, full bass and have insulation and sound deadening to protect the highs from engine and road noise. Higher-end cars will almost universally have external amps at wattages higher than *most* integrated amps to keep sound clean and clear.
If you want good sound from your Saab, you're going to need to invest money to bring it up to the same specs as a modern car. Start by relocating the speakers into the door/side panels, baffle them, and install some sound deadening between the panel and the metal frame. Pick up a good-quality 4-channel, 30w/per (or more) amp. A Saab can sound as good as any car - possibly better than most.
I've nearly finished my audio project in my 2-door - 5.25" Blaupunkt separates in back, 5.25" Polk separates up front - all of them in the side panels, sealed, baffled, and Dynamatted. A Sony Xplod 4x40w amp in the trunk powers the show. Not quite as much bass as it could have, but the system is very musical and as good as any I've heard, even at high volume. I have a 200w amp for a sub, but I think that might be more bass than I want. Total cost, including the deck, was around $800. You can do better, you can do worse.
